New Pittsfield player
added to All Star Game on Sunday
Michael Radomski
(PITTSFIELD, Mass.) – The
Dukes already have 7 players selected to the All Star team but they
will have to make room for one more teammate. Craig Hertler (San
Jose State) was added to the Southern Division All Star team last
night for the injured Kevin Carby (Tenn Wesleyan College) of the
North Adams SteepleCats.
Carby was named the backup second baseman to the team last Saturday
when the teams were selected at the Dan Duquette Sports Academy but
a midweek injury will keep him out of the game this upcoming Sunday
at Fuessenich Park in Torrington, Connecticut.
Kevin Carby and Cliff Hicks (Franklin Pierce) of the Keene Swamp
Bats collided with each other on a groundball on July 15th and Carby
stayed motionless on the ground for several moments.
Hicks stayed in the game but Carby went to the hospital as he was
taken out right after the play.
Craig Hertler will fill the spot left by Carby as the backup second
baseman.
Hertler is having a fine season for the first place Pittsfield Dukes
of the Southern Division. For most of the season he has been top
five in many statistical categories. The Dukes second baseman is
currently 5th in the NECBL with 24 runs scored, fourth with twelve
stolen bases, and second with six sacrifice bunts.
With the one hit win last night, the Dukes improve to 19-11 on the
season and sit 3 ˝ games up on the Newport Gulls in frist place in
the Southern Division. Pittsfield will host the Torrington Twisters
tomorrow in a doubleheader beginning at six o’clock. Alex MacKenzie
(Canisius) and Mike Woytek (Wright State) as the probable starters
for the Dukes tonight. The Twisters and Dukes will play two games,
each scheduled for seven innings, and then STAR 101.7 FM and WBRK AM
1340 will sponsor the fireworks show after the second game.
